Wasting time with Jet

While checking out the box office for this weekend, I stumbled upon a website listing the movies to be releases in the near future. At first I went a few months, then the end of the year and then on to next year...Do you know how many damn sequels are coming out!?!?!? And I don't mean expected ones like Spider Man or Pirates of the Carribean, I mean LOADS!

*"HOSTEL 2" - Coming out almost a year after the first one. I guess Horror movie sequels are like cake, you want so many till they clog your artieries and then you become a diebetic. Didn't even see part one, yet so I can't really say much about this one.

*"YOUNG HANNIBAL:Behind the Mask" - In the wake of the new STAR WARS Trilogy and MGM's attempt to milk the Hannibal Lecter franchise for more money, we're taken back to his teenager days where his parents were killed just after World War II. The cast is very european, I don't recognize any of the stars except Gong Li (Miami Vice). Something tells me this movie's gonna feel like "The Talented Mr. Ripley" all over again. This is due early next year which makes sense because "Hannibal" cleaned house in Feburary 2001.

*"THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2" - Like HOSTEL, didn't see it...It's due in March.

*"SHREK THE THIRD" - My god, it just won't die, will it? Ah, if it keeps making money...This one will give Spidey some tough competition when it comes out the middle of May

*"28 WEEKS LATER..." - No, Sandra Bullock doesn't go back to rehab, this is a Zombie Sequel of that movie 28 DAYS Later, see that? They went from Days to Weeks, what's next, "28 MONTHS LATER"?, maybe...This is scheduled for MAY, but my money says it'll get pushed.

*"FANTASTIC FOUR AND THE SILVER SURFER" - When I read that title, my jaw dropped. I knew they'd make another Fantastic 4, but to throw in the Chrome Dome with the Surf Board...Friggin' SWEET!...I hope they don't mess up Galactus. This promises to be a summer movie with a June release, but they should really push it.

*"HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX" - Whatever happened to POTTER releases in November? Well part 3 did come out in June 2004, maybe they're doing the odd ones in the summer and the even ones in the winter...Look for this one in July!

*"ALIENS VS PREDATOR 2" - Like Ali vs. Fraizer...once wasn't enough, they need a cameo from Arnold or Danny Glover this time around...Coming out around the same time part 1 did, August 2007.

*"RUSH HOUR 3" - I never thought I'd see it, but it's comming, After Tucker belly-ached for more money and such, he's teaming up with Jackie again, this time they're making trouble for themselves in...PARIS?!?!?, ummmmmmmm, okay! It's due in August or September 2007.

Also before THIS years over, expect SAW 3, THE GRUDGE 2, and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE:The Beginning.

What happened to originality? Between remakes, and Franchise-Do Over's, when is something going to come out that wasn't a video game, comic book, Theme Park Attraction or TV Show?

Well, believe it or not, there still some out there that try. The question is are we willing to pay 10.75 a pop to see something new and original when the sequel is 7/10 the safe bet? When someone has that answer, maybe hollywood will change.
