"Never underestimate the power of Will Smith!"

"I AM LEGEND" earns 75 frinking Million, Bjillion, Swmillion, shama-lama-ding dong Dollars!

WOW.

And I must say, it's worth every penny.

I saw it Saturday Afternoon before work. It was kinda slow at first and the Back-and-Forth Flashbacks as Robert Neville dreams was very similar to "I, Robot".

SO, without giving TOO much away the story's very close to the other incarnations of the past..."The Omega Man" and "Last Man on Earth"

Emma Thompson has a cameo in the beginning as the doctor that "Cured Cancer".

BUT, Leave it to a woman to be the end of Mankind as we know it...

3 Years later, Will Smith's the lone survivor driving around a VERY deserted Manhattan Island hunting deers for sport. He runs around during the day, but at NIGHT...

Well, lets jus say...the FREAKS come out at night.

This movie kicks ass, Smith deserves an Oscar nod for his performance.

Displaying the insanity of isolation ala Tom Hanks in "Cast Away", he talks to his only companion (His dog Samantha) and has placed mannequins all around the city talking to them like everyday people as he makes his routine rounds (Renting Videos, playing Golf off a Aircraft Carrier, etc, etc...). As he battles dementia he also deals with the failures of trying to find a cure to the virus that taken over the rest of the world.

Directed by "Constantine"'s Francis Lawrence the vast shots of the empty New York are stunning. They're even sight gags planted for possible future movies like a "Batman/Superman" crossover or a Teen Titans Live Action Movie. Other gems of the potential future include Shaq retiring from the NBA in 2010 and Katie Couric returning to the Today Show(?) (Maybe they didn't know she was gonna leave to CBS, but seeing her on the Today Show of the future was hysterical!)

The movie has it's deep moments as Flashbacks show Smith's tearful farewell with his wife and daughter (Once again played by his REAL LIFE daughter) as they evacuated the city.

There were gripes about deviations from the novel and rumors that the ending was reshot, but overall its was nice of hollywood go out on a limb and not recycle the typical cookie-cutter action hero cliché.

I give it 3 outta 4 stars...if Will Smith keeps saving the world, everything will be all good.
